In Safe Hands
The In Safe Hands program provides support and care for pregnant and parenting young women. It also helps those who may not have extended family support or partners who are willing or able to help during their pregnancy or after the birth of their baby.
In Safe Hands provides the opportunity for each young mum to participate in life skills and positive parenting programs. These programs are designed to support their transition to independent living and assist the young women to make positive choices about their future.
Back on TrackBack on Track offers a range of diverse programs suited to various learning styles that fulfil the many dimensions of the adolescent experience.
The program focuses on maximising educational opportunities, pre-vocational training, enhancing independent living skills, developing broader support networks, providing social and recreational opportunities and planning for leaving care.
OutreachAfter the young women move on from the intensive support of our residential service, they are linked in with an Outreach Support Worker who assists and guides them in many aspects of their life.
The support worker works with the young women within their homes and provides options that are designed to assist in areas such as education, employment, life skills and counselling.
As young women move through the out of home care system, it is not unusual for Cara to remain linked in with them for long periods of time.
Cara’s experience shows that this continuity of care offers the girls an opportunity to build significant, positive relationships with their carers and staff. It is also essential to their growth and development, thereby assisting them to become valuable and contributing members of our community. |
The difficulties that young women in care face, and in particular, pregnant or parenting teenagers, are immense and for those young women who are involved in the child protection system the challenges are even greater – they often struggle to understand their past traumatic experiences while attempting to take on the responsibilities of parenthood.
