What a fantastic night was experienced by all who attended the Cara “Ignite Their Light and Let Them Shine” presentation on Thursday 12th May 2011.
In excess of 100 invited guests mingled in the foyer of Chapel Off Chapel and enjoyed a variety of finger food and pre show drinks before taking their seats to view a performance of “Who owns me today?”, a drama by HighWater theatre.
The stage show, which was at times very confronting for the audience, highlighted the difficulties associated with adolescent homelessness, including teenage pregnancy.
Ignite Their Light and Let Them Shine is the catchcry for Cara’s extension of our Morgan House Young Mums program and will alleviate the risk of becoming homeless and the possible loss of their baby. A situation which is faced by these vulnerable young mothers when they are approaching or have reached the age of 18 and are no longer supported by the Department of Human Services.
Cara’s vision is to provide our Catalina House property for up to three young mothers and their babies and remove the possibility of the girls having to declare themselves homeless and run the risk of having to relinquish the care of their child because they have no permanent place to live.
We received several generous donations on the night and hope to have discussions with one or more corporate partners who may be interested in a tailored sponsorship package which will allow us the financial independence to operate this new and innovative program.
